 News from the Director

Dear Members,

We are fast approaching the end of the year which means it is time to renew your membership of the Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce and to book for the Annual DUCC Christmas Lunch on the 12th of December 2008 at 12.00.

The Lunch will take place at the Radisson SAS Portman Hotel and the Danish Church will deliver their famous Danish Christmas Buffet, a menu which will include: Starter, cold and hot buffet, cheese and ris à la mande. The beer is by Carlsberg, the akvavit is by “Aalborg” and the “mandelgave” is by Anthon Berg. There will be Christmas songs, raffle and surprise entertainment.

The membership renewal package for 2009 is in the post, so contact us if you have not received it by the end of November 2008. The package includes your renewal letter, the invoice covering membership for 2009 and the DUCC Calendar of events for the forthcoming year.

Based on previous years’ experience, we have now identified a range and balance of different events and activities that should generate great interest throughout 2009. The core of our program consists of the four very popular traditional Chamber events: The Summer Cocktail Party, the Easter Evening Buffet, the Annual Dinner and the Christmas Lunch. In addition, we shall have events that promote Danish exports in 2009; one on Danish Design, another on opportunities leading up to the Olympics and a third will be a retail seminar on how to get your products onto the shelves of UK retail businesses. We shall also host two events concerning the Global Financial Markets, one of which will take place at the London Stock Exchange. Furthermore, we have maintained for 2009 our Career Development seminar.

These have been chosen in order to satisfy our twin aims, both of meeting the preferences of our existing members and attracting new members by providing an opportunity to share and maintain contact with the Anglo-Danish business community in elegant surroundings.

Our next event will take place on the 26th of November when we shall visit Bang & Olufsen who will host an evening that includes a discussion on Danish Design as well as the release of a new product. Lars Flyvholm, the new Managing Director of Bang & Olufsen UK, will share with us his views on how Danish companies in general can take advantage of Denmark’s position within the field of Design.

 Best regards,

Martin Mortensen
Executive Director
Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce

DUCC Advisory Board Dinner at the Ambassadors Residence

Per Troen
DUCC Chairman

Dear Member,

What a year 2008 turned out to be for the financial markets and ultimately for all of us. For our businesses the trouble is emerging whilst we are preparing for another festive season.

For the Chamber we have had one of our best years both in financial terms and in membership events terms, both in so far as number of evens are concerned and members attending.

One of the main reasons for reaching these excellent milestones was the establishment of the DUCC Advisory Board, consisting of 23 Anglo-Danish companies.

The Advisory Board meets 2 times a year at the Danish Embassy or at one of the Advisory members offices. In addition we started a joint Nordic Chamber advisory board event with the Danish Ambassador as the host.
This increases our emphasis on creating a broader networking base across the Nordic region in London, but with like minded companies and individuals..

This will be repeated with events at all the Nordic Embassies in London and in 2009 the Norwegian Chamber and its Ambassador will host this in the first half of 2009.

The other main reason has been all our members who have supported the Chamber and attended the events.

I thank our members , the staff at the Chamber and all our friends and especially the Embassy for a good year.

In the difficult times ahead we need to strengthen our networking activities and focus on adapting to the demands ahead. We need to be proactive and continue to share ideas and ways to cope with the changes.

I hope to see you at the remaining events this year!

With my very best wishes

Per Troen
Chairman

News from the Royal Danish Embassy

The Danish Embassy Used as Fashion Platform

On the 28th October the Royal Danish Embassy invited the British fashion industry to an exclusive launch of 20 Danish fashion brands, which included children-, mens- and womenswear.

The event worked as a platform to bring the Danish and the British fashion industry together to form partnerships and create network relations.

The brands’ collections were showcased, as a mini trade-fair, in the Danish Embassy’s car park on Sloane Street. The car park setting with its raw concrete walls and floors, yellow painted parking bays, fluorescent floodlight and red pipes created an edgy and cool atmosphere.

High-light of the day was a funky and eclectic low-budget fashion show featuring a wide selection of the showcased designs, where loud Danish rock music and champagne brought warmth to the cold concrete car park.

Blog by the Danish Ambassador

The Danish Ambassador Birger Riis-Jørgensen continues his blog at the Danish Embassy's website. At the blog he will write about things happening at the Embassy as well as events going out in the UK and outside UK.

‘The Blessings of Movement’

make the day easier to handle – change position!

We sit wrongly for too long, dynamic work stations are far healthier

Lower back pain affects over 49% of the adult population, lasting 24 hours at some stage during the year. Source: TSSA May 2001 'Back Pain in the Workplace'

Posturally speaking, the human being was not designed to sit... or stand, or any other fixed posture for that matter, but it was designed to move.

When moving, the cardiovascular system works more efficiently regulating the body processes, carrying away waste products and carbon dioxide, and greatly enhancing the rejuvenation and recovery processes. When moving, skeletal joints are fed synovial fluid to keep them lubricated and to protect their mating surfaces. The inervertebral discs in the spine do not contain blood vessels so movement is the only way that these stay healthy. When moving, the digestive system works more effectively.
