Fashion Reception - March 22

This evening was indeed a very successful evening with more than 70 attendees from all kind of businesses – lawyers, designers, photographers, journalists, bankers etc. Some guests even took the trip all the way from Denmark to attend this evening about Danish Fashion.

Mr Nicolaj Dupont-Mersing who is Head of Trade Department of the Federation of the Danish Textile & Clothing delivered the first presentation. Mr Dupont-Mersing spoke about the development in Danish exports, possibilities in the future and how to penetrate a new market such as the UK.

Mr Jens Laugesen gave us his personal story about his life in fashion – studying Haute Couture and Fashion Management in Paris, working for a number of internationally design houses in Paris and about his relocation to London.

The presentations were followed by questions from the audience curious to learn about the fashion industry.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet leading Danish businessmen living in London. I met several very interesting people I hope to meet in the future again. It is great to feel how enthusiastic people are in regards to the efforts I have been putting into building my Brand by myself. It motivates me to take the next important steps.” Jens Laugesen

I have been a member of the DUCC for many years and I have to say that my team and I found last night particularly interesting. We can feel the whole hard work of the DUCC team in order to provide the member with a very professional networking evening within an industry that needs to be helped.” Dr Thierry R Dorfsman, Group IMBC

Thank you for an interesting evening. Good wine, good canapés and great company!” Bengt Grundberg, Marketing Manager, Grundberg Mocatta Rakison LLP

"I fully enjoyed the company of members of DUCC at the Fashion evening. They showed a sincere interest in the development and challenges of the Danish fashion industry and had many hard questions. The networking will definitely benefit all parties". Nicolaj Dupont-Mersing, Head of Trade Department of the Federation of the Danish Textile & Clothing

"Thank you for a great event. I am working at the Embassy where I cover Danish fashion in the UK, and I found the event very relevant in relation to my work. The speakers were both informative and inspiring. The following networking session was a great opportunity to meet Danish designers and people working in in the fashion industry in both the UK and in Denmark"
Maria Mayerhofer, Embassy of Denmark

“At last someone takes the industry seriously and does something for Danish fashion abroad” Helle Wang, PR Coordinator, DESIGNERS REMIX COLLECTION

"Great work gathering so many up and coming Danish designers. And what a good debate! Very enlightening to know about the many difficulties the talented designers are facing in their efforts to make it big"
Simon Nielsen, Børsen

DUCC Easter Buffet - March 29

The 29th of April our first-ever Easter Dinner was held in the informal surroundings of Danish Church in London.

Guests enjoyed a traditional Danish Easter menu with the same delicious selection of dishes that are always popular at our Annual Christmas Lunch served with Danish beers and 'snaps'.

Guest S
peaker MrsUlla Terkelsen gave us a shortversion of the story about her life on the screen around the world - with the challenges and experiences this have included. This introduction was followed by questions from the floor. The inquisitiveness from the floor was busy and Mrs Ulla Terkelsen answered all sorts of questions - about politics, privat life, the development of media platforms, the quality of news etc.

The evening has definitely formed the basis of a new tradition: The Annual DUCC Easter Dinner.

News from the Director

Dear Members,

April is the month of our AGM and Annual Dinner, which will both take place at the Drapers’ Hall in the City of London on the 20th of April 2007. For this enjoyable evening we have invited former Vice Chairman of the Chamber, Mr Christian Williams, currently Master of the Drapers’ Company, to perform the after-dinner speech.

This will also be the opportunity to welcome the launch of our Annual Trade Directory, featuring all members of the Chamber who have renewed their membership for 2007.

This is not the only event in April as we have also planned a career development seminar following on from the success of previous career development seminars, which were attended by a large number of members. The panel will be composed of top headhunters, such as Mr Kai Hammerich, Partner at Russell Reynolds and Mr Soren Bansholt, Managing Partner at SAM Headhunting, who will answer your questions and demonstrate how best to promote yourself and your CV in order to stand out in this increasingly important industry.

You should have received the March/April 2007 issue of Nyt fra Danmark, the first issue with a page at the Chamber’s disposal. Please see page 11 of the UK section for details of the Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce.

I would like to thank those of you who have complemented us on the content of the DUCC page, but also those of you who have asked us to press for the UK section to be written in English, the language of the soil, the official language of organisation and of many members of the Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce. Please do contact us ASAP if you have not received this interesting magazine.

Please welcome to the Chamber this month our newest members: Infinicor and Ladegaard A/S.

In addition this month, I would like to express, on behalf of everyone at the organisation, our appreciation to Grundberg Mocatta Rakison LLP for upgrading their corporate membership to that of Patrons’. The support we receive from our Patrons is invaluable.

Finally, I would like to share with you details of how to order a book by former Chairman of the Chamber, Mr Jim G Davis, that I have recently had the immense pleasure to read. This book is of great interest for anyone involved in the shipping industry and indeed of great inspiration for anyone in business.

Best regards,

Martin Mortensen

Ladegaard A/S

LADEGAARD A/S is a training company that provides sales training, management development and Blended Learning for many international and Danish companies.

LADEGAARD A/S makes a difference – every time.

One way LADEGAARD A/S does this is by using instructors who have successfully practiced what they preach. None of our instructors are pure theoreticians who have to use other people as examples and references.

Our client list is available on our website www.ladegaard.as

A large number of international and Danish companies use LADEGAARD A/S as a `sparring partner’ for staff development.

To produce first-class results training must be based on the company’s:
- business idea
- strategy/vision.

This allows us to forge direct links between the company’s goals and its senior management, middle managers and staff. Training is not an extra sideline. It is firmly imbedded in and integrated into the company’s business planning.

It is best to wash a flight of steps from the top down, so co-operation with LADEGAARD A/S typically looks like this:

- Definition of training goals
- What are they capable of now and what should they be capable of when the training is over?
- Defining ambitious new sales goals with the solid backing of top management
- Training of managers responsible for salespeople and staff.

Book review - Biography by DUCC Honorary President

Our President and Past Chairman Mr J G Davis has written a short biography entitled You and Your Ships. This is a revealing personal account of the shipping business over the last 50 years.

Jim Davis’s obsession with ships began at the age of 3 or 4 and thereafter he develops this theme with vigour, but there is an appropriate blend between career and personal elements. He describes the dangers and circumstances of his childhood war experiences, with his somewhat protracted bachelorhood and relationship with his mother and her death. He goes on the describe his loved wife and family, details of his years in shipping to the present where there is no longer any major UK shipping company left. He is engaged in the real Global Maritime World. The Author gives us a fine mix of the amusing, the poignant and the dramatic.

This is a book not to be missed. The reader is never permitted to become bored with the book, but instead is drawn into the text. The variety is a key to its success.

The book is priced at £14.95 plus post and packaging of £1.50 (UK) £2.50 (Europe) £4.75 (Rest of World) and can be obtained as follows:

By Post to The Memoir Club, Stanhope Old Hall, Stanhope, Weardale, Co Durham, DL13 2PF with a cheque payable to The Memoir Club
