Friday the 10th of November a Nordic Preclub was held at Kensington Roof Gardens. A lot of young professional Danes had thought this an exellent opportunity to have a night out and meet some other young danes or Scandinavians.
The Roof Gardens is a an exquisite restaurant during the day, and offers an exclusively night club in the evening below the restaurant.
The event mustered 300 young professionals, who all enjoyed themselves. The Roof Gardens sponsored welcome drinks as well as cocktails and canapés, which ensured a festive atmosphere from the very beginning.
Most of the members who joined the Preclub at 8 O'clock stayed on till the early morning.
Together with the other Nordic Chambers we have decided to make this mingling event an annual tradition. So for those who were not able to attend this year, there will be a new chance next year.
On the 22ndof November 2006 the British Nordic Lawyers Association and the Danish-UK Chamber of Commerce invited their members to an evening on the newest change in age discrimination law under the headline: "Does Age Matter", which was brilliantly presented by Mrs Emmanulle Ries.
The event was hosted and sponsored by DUCC Patron Miller Rosenfalck LLP – European Business Lawyers
The topic at hand was "Does Age Matter" referring to the newest change in age discrimination law. Martin Mortensen welcomed the members who had turned up, and Steen Rosenfalck introduced the guest speaker.
The event took place at Miller Rosenfalck's where drinks and snacks were served.
This years Christmas Lunch was held, like last year, at the Millennium Knightsbridge Hotel.
As always this event is very popular, and this year was no exception with over 80 people attending.
The lunch had been prepared by Danish head chef Tom Thomsen and was as always excellent.
DUCC Chairman Mr. Per Troen welcomed people and asked Honorary President Mr. Jim Davis to say grace.
Later prizes were handed out for
1) the person who attended most events this year. Winner: Leon Olsen
2) the person who payed membership the quickest Winner: Michael Rohde
3) the most awkward comment of the year? Winner: Steen Rosenfalck (for exclaiming what he thought of the winner of most attended events last year, which was himself)
And then Per Troen improvised an award with his sarcastic nature, for the persons that had attended most events without being members. Winners: Søren Jensen & Søren Jonas Bruun
After the Awards and Lunch the bar was open, which many took the opportunity of enjoying a drink or two before heading home.

Over the last couple of weeks we have had fresh confirmation that the UK housing market has stepped up a gear. According to Nationwide, house prices rose by 9.6% in November, and the number of new mortgage applications suggests further growth in the coming months. Mortgage applications rose to their highest levels since 2003 in November. Estate agents are also optimistic. One of our favourite indicators for the UK housing market is the RICS index, which climbed to 48 in October. We have to go right back to 2002 to find UK estate agents this optimistic. The housing market naturally plays an important role at the Bank of England, but these developments are hardly likely to prompt the BoE to raise interest rates further next year. Last week Bank of England kept the baserate unchanged at 5.0%. This was widely expected. However, the market is relatively sure that there will be another rate hike in February next year, but we are far from convinced. Although the UK economy is growing well and the housing market is surging ahead, this has not led to any notable increase in wage pressure. Meanwhile, the depreciation of the USD means that the Cable (GBP/USD) has risen to its highest levels for 14 years. Other things being equal, this will curb UK inflation. Finally, two members of the monetary policy committee voted against another hike at the November meeting, when interest rates were raised to 5.0%. In other words, there is a fraction of the MPC which definitely does not see a need for even higher interest rates in the UK. Relative to the ECB, say, there is also naturally greater concern about the consequences of a slowdown in the US economy on the other side of the Atlantic. Even as UKpolicy rates might have peaked we still see good support to the GBP in 2007. Hence, we still see EUR/GBP in the range 67-68 and for Danish kroner. It means that the GBP/DKK is expected to continue to stay above 11. |

by Morten Gammelgaard Trade Commisioner In Manchester Morten Gammelgaard sees a wealth of possibilities in the Danish Export to Britain
EXPORT: The fog over Manchester has cleared and the former industrial city has founds its footing again. There are many possibilities, and for Danish companies Manchester is not necessarily that far away.
There is no doubt that Manchester United has placed the city on the world map, but Manchester and the Northwest of England do in fact offer much more than football.-The area is experiencing growth and there are plenty of opportunities for Danish companies, says Morten Gammelgaard, Danish Trade Commissioner in Manchester. Maybe it was not just a coincidence that Manchester was one of the strongholds in the age of industrialization, because even though the city and the whole area experienced failure and decay after the burst of the cotton industry, the sun is now shining over the area again, and the employees of the Danish Trade Council are ready to assist Danish companies to get into or expand on the British market:-Britain offers a wide selection of possibilities for Danish companies. Especially building and construction, sub-contracted supply to industry, together with food products and food processing equipment offer great opportunities, says Morten Gammelgaard and continues: -We have a thorough knowledge of the market which makes us able to help companies avoid the common pitfalls. Britain and Denmark are similar in many ways, but there are also cultural and logistical differences, says Morten Gammelgaard, who in co-operation with his employees also offers the so-called incubator programme, where the Trade Commission is in charge of marketing and direct sale on behalf of the Danish company: -This is a unique possibility for the Danish companies to enter the British market at a relatively low expense. We are so to speak their sales office in Britain, says Morten Gammelgaard and explains: -The starting point is always the needs of the individual company, where we jointly create a custom-designed solution.
FACTS:
-The Danish Export Council assists Danish companies with export promotional activities
-The Trade Commision of Denmark in Manchester is like the Commercial Section of the Embassy of Denmark in London, a part of The Danish Trade Council's representation in Britain.
