ATP

ATP

ATP is an award winning organisation, managing the largest Danish pension fund, which covers the working and retired Danish population and currently covers 4.6 million members and 160,000 employers and holds total assets of more than 80bn GBP.

ATP's London office is looking to share our expertise and our innovative business model in the international arena and especially in the UK.  We are actively looking at innovative ways of providing low cost quality pensions to employers to help them comply with the auto enrolment.

As way of background
ATP is a statutory pension fund, which was established as an independent entity in 1964 with the objective of ensuring a greater retirement income for the Danish population. ATP had total assets amounting to c£81 billion at 30 June 2010; and the guaranteed and bonus potential amounted to c£52 billion. There are no sponsors and employers have no other obligations than to pay the contributions - i.e. ATP needs to be fully funded at all times and pays out bonuses to the members when it's more than 120% funded.

The core of ATP's business model
ATP's objectives of maximising purchasing power for our members combined with a low risk tolerance are the drivers for our products and investment strategy.

ATP's administration services
In addition to the ATP Scheme, the ATP Group administers a number of other pension and social insurance schemes, including several for the Danish state. From 2012 this will also include the administration of the Danish
Tax-financed basic pension.

Average yearly cost of administration per member was 0.04% of assets under management in 2009 this amounted to less than GBP 5 per member per year.

ATP's investment strategy
ATP's investment activities are managed with a view to achieving positive returns in any financial climate. Therefore, investment decisions are guided by an overall strategy of risk diversification rather than by the benchmarks. Moreover, tail risk strategies are used to avoid excessive losses. Thus, ATP's portfolio is divided into two sub-portfolios: A hedging portfolio and an investment portfolio. The investment portfolio is invested in five risk classes with very different return profiles.

ATP's investment results from 2000-2009: Average yearly return = +6.9% GBP 100 contributed in 2000 was worth GBP 188.6 in 2009.
