From Friday the 25th of February until Saturday the 12th of March the Phillips Art Gallery in Manchester will open a new exhibition featuring Danish mid-20th century figurative paintings.
Artists such as Axel Bentzen, Thorvald Hagedorn-Olsen and Victor Haagen-Muller, (all of whom represented Denmark at the Venice Bienalle, before and just after WW2), are little known outside their native country but are simply too good to ignore. Other artists in the exhibition include Jacob Meyer, Hans Ollgaard, Soren Hjorth-Nielsen, Flemming Bergsoe, Carl Falbe-Hansen and Cort Jacobsen. Paintings date from 1932 - 1965.
Paintings can be viewed from Friday 18th February and their evening preview, (with drinks/nibbles) is scheduled for Thursday 24th February from 5.30pm - 8.30pm. All works will be for sale prior to the exhibition opening and images will start to go on their web site from the 12th February.
