Danish chef Christoffer Hruskova introduces New Nordic cuisine to London at his Clerkenwell restaurant North Road.
The restaurant is named after the historic ‘Great North Road’, which started its course at Smithfield market in pre-Roman times, connecting the capital cities of England and Scotland standing at either end of the great trading route. The name, of course, also makes reference to the northern influence on the menu as well as the chef’s heritage.
While his travels around the world have influenced his creative process, it’s Christoffer’s Scandinavian roots that provide the foundation of the dishes at North Road. Successfully combining sophistication with simplicity the ingredients take centre stage, whether they are hand-dived scallops or langoustines from the Scottish coast, lamb from Cumbria, beef from Galloway or simply wild herbs or salad roots. The ingredients are subtly brought together with traditional Scandinavian techniques such as smoking and pickling. The dishes are light, sometimes earthy, but there are no overpowering rich sauces, just delicate complimentary flavours.
North Road sources excellent local produce from Britain and is geared towards sustainability, in both its sourcing practice as well as kitchen set up. The 140-bin wine list is predominantly European with an enviable selection of wines from small growers and producers.
As well as the a la carte and a set lunch menu priced at £20 for 3-courses available Monday to Friday, there will be a 5-course tasting menu priced at £55. The restaurant’s Chef’s Table sits to the side of the kitchen in its own semi-private alcove where guests can enjoy a bespoke menu as well as watch the Head Chef and his team in action. We have a mezzanine space available for hire to groups of up to 16 people. We also offer catering services
