Dansk Handicap Idræts-Forbund (DHIF) is a federation under Danmarks Idræts-Forbund (DIF). DHIF has approximately 420 member clubs with a total of 18,000 members. DHIF’s clubs offer activities in more than 30 disciplines.
Dansk Handicap Idræts-Forbund was founded in 1971 as an independent nation-wide organisation, following the formation of the first handicap sport associations in the 1950’s, and the establishment of The National Commitee for Handicap Sports in 1968. Today DHIF has members with different types of disability incl. blind and visually impaired people and people with all kinds of mental and physical challenges.
Danish Handicap Sports are financed by sponsorships, national lottery funds and private funds.
DHIF is a member of The National Paralympic Commitee and therefore responsible for the Danish participation at The Paralympic Games in London 2012.
